In today’s modern society we put a lot of importance on quantity. Due to the fast fashion industry and our ‘more is better’ attitude, we invest a lot in cheap fashion, filling our wardrobes up with styles that will date faster than we’re able to make use out of them. This results in a wardrobe packed full of styles we don’t even like or that don’t suit us, making getting dressed a challenge on a daily basis.
The key to stylish dressing is a capsule wardrobe – owning just a few items that you can rely on and that you always look great in. Read on to find out how to build your own capsule wardrobe…
We all need items for off-duty dressing, the key to any capsule wardrobe is to invest in pieces that you can mix and match. For casual dressing invest in a couple of pairs of chinos, that can also be worn with smarter shirts for work or meetings. Choose two different but neutral colours. In addition invest in two pairs of straight leg jeans, again in two colours.
For tops all you need is three basic but high quality t-shirts in different colours, white, grey and navy blue or khaki work well. Invest in a couple of long sleeved polo shirts too. For the summer you may want to have a couple of pairs of smart shorts, chino style shorts work well in grey, khaki or navy.
Every man needs a well fitting and stylish suit. For work, weddings and events, a well fitted suit is possibly the most important item in your wardrobe. It is worth having a suit custom made to fit you perfectly, as an ill fitting suit looks untidy and out dated. Choose a colour like dark grey or navy for a versatile suit.
You should also invest in several shirts, 3-4 is perfect. A crisp white shirt is a must, as well as a pale blue shirt.
